How I Started Blogging

about my blog

Hi i’m Katie from katekiwii I wanted to write a little post about how i started my blog.

I’ve wanted to blog now for a few years but always put myself off because I had very little to blog about and never had a good quality camera to take pictures of the products I wanted to review. When I came to university I started to buy more things like beauty items and a camera which then gave me more things to talk about and helped me take good quality pictures and videos to put on my blog.

Another thing that put me off was my anxiety, At the back of my head I always thought no one would read my blog posts and that my posts won’t be as good as other peoples. But I’ve proved myself wrong and I have created the blog i’ve always dreamed of having!

You don’t have to have a lot of money to have a blog, you can write about anything you want and review all the products you have in your cupboard you don’t have to go out and buy new things. Do not let the idea of having to have lot’s of money and new products put you off blogging.

I started my blog because I am one of those people who google everything! And I’m not even joking, if I have a problem or need some advice on something I’m straight on to google and clicking every link that stands out to me.

So, I wanted my blog to be that place where if someone googled ‘How do i make my hair thicker?’ my blog would come up with the answer, as I always wanted just one place where i could find all the answers to the questions i had.

So if you every need a blog post about something and I have the answer or product feel free and I will write that blog post for you.

How i started blogging.

I started my blog back in my first year of university. I came across wordpress because me and Blogger just didn’t get on. I fell in love with WordPress because of how easy it was to use and how you could make your blog the way you wanted it to look.

I went on a day out to liverpool and bought a few items from lush, I decided to take photo’s from my lush haul. I had the lush haul blog post in the draft folder for months before I eventually plucked up the courage to hit ‘publish’. The pictures were taken on my iPhone and I put it all together on the wordpress app on my iPad. I finally uploaded it after months of it being in that folder and since then I’ve not stopped blogging and I’m glad I found the courage to upload it and that’s how my blog started.

Making My Blog

I then made my own header, found a theme that was simple and easy to navigate and started planning my blog posts and setting the schedules to upload them. I also saved up for a Canon camera as I do a production course at university so I was buying the camera for both my blog and my course. So in my head if my blog didn’t go as I planned I could always use the camera to film videos and short films for university and it wouldn’t have been wasted.

But keep it in mind you don’t need to spend a fortune on a good camera, iPhone’s have amazing cameras on them and a lot of good quality camera’s are not that pricy. I also think a camera is a good investment in life and it can help you capture the happy memories you want to keep.

How I got my name

My name came across me years ago when my old best friend used to call each me ki. Ki then became kiwii and then since then I’ve always use the name Katekiwii, it’s a bit off a different/odd name but i think its catchy and I’ve used it for twitter, instagram and now my blog.

What i blog about?

Well I blog about all sorts from ‘Beauty’ to ‘Lifestyle’. I never really wanted to blog about just beauty or just fashion as Ihave a interest in everything and I want to have blog posts that help everyone with different things.

I didn’t want to have just one category I wanted to have many so if someone needed inspiration for bedroom decor they could also find that on my blog along with many other categories.

What has my blog done for me?

Having Katekiwii has made me a lot more confident. I am a very shy person and mainly keep myself to myself but my blog has helped me open up and become more confident with myself. Everyone I meet while bogging have been so lovely and kind and they have helped me blog more and helped me find myself and also do something that I love. When you start surrounding yourself with positive people and everything you like you start to become more happier. Having my blog and meeting amazing people on here has made me more positive and confident with myself and has helped me in so many ways.

My Advice

Don’t panic if you feel like you don’t have much to write about. I alway’s seem to get writers block and wonder for ages on what to blog on but then after a while an idea will pop into my head and i grab my camera and notepad and I take photo’s and plan the blog post.

If your thinking about blogging or starting your own youtube channel etc I say just go for it. At the end of the day if it does not work out at least you’ve tried it and know that its not for you or that it’s actually the best thing to happen to you.

Don’t let anyone stand in your way of doing what you love 🙂

Blog about what you love and are interested in.

Be honest about your reviews, if you disliked the product say it, don’t hype it up if you don’t actually like it.

Set a schedule

You don’t photoshop or any expensive editing software to create fun and interesting videos or pictures.
