Life With MCM | Blog

Megan McCoig’s blog is a Beauty/Lifestyle blog. Her blog is full of helpful, detailed blog posts of reviews on high end but also drug store beauty products. The layout of her blog is so simple and easy to read. I am a recent follower of her blog and now it is one of my favourites to read. When you read her blog posts, you can see how much effort goes into them. Her pictures always give me photo envy as they look so professional! She also does blog posts on Travel and Inspiration.

I’m Megan McCoig a 20 year old student studying Media and Cultural Studies at the University of the Arts London. My blog is here to share my lifestyle interests, such as travel, beauty, inspiration and personal thoughts.

From reading blogs across many categories I was recently inspired to start writing about my passions and what I enjoy in life.

Here’s a brief insight into what you’ll see across each category:
Beauty – I thoroughlyenjoy trying and sharing products from both high end and high street brands. I will be sharing reviews, tips and tutorials to share which beauty products I use and how I use them.
Travel – One of my desires is to travel, and being a student it can be hard to do so. So, when I do get the time and money this is what I do. When I travel I love to document with photos and videos, which I will be sharing along with what I did and enjoyed.
Inspiration – These photos will focus on my personal thoughts and views on many different topics. I will post inspiration that I have written or documented myself, or some stuff that inspires me. This could be anything from a feature I have written to things (objects, people, spaces etc.) that have inspired me to write about and share.

I hope you enjoy what I share with you – feel free to comment and share

Makeup Haul

Before Christmas, I entered Megan McCoig giveaway. I woke up to a message on twitter that I had won it and I was over the moon!. I was a recent reader of her blog and her giveaway contained make up I wanted to try and an eye shadow palette I wanted to buy but was never in the shop when I went to get it.

So when I found out I had won it, I was so happy and excited. I thought I would do a post on what I got with a little review of each product. A few days later I received it and I was excited to try out the makeup products.

Revolution | Flawless Matte
I have had my eye on this palette for a while now and it was always out of stock when I went to buy it. It is full of every day eyeshadows. They are so pigmented and easily bendable.

PicMonkey Collage7.jpg

Elf | Blush Peach Keen
I have never owned or used any Elf products, so I was excited to try them out as I have heard a lot about them. This blush is a gorgeous colour.

PicMonkey Collage6.jpg

Rimmel | Glam Eyes Black Eyeliner
If you read me my blog, you know I am a huge lover of eyeliners that are thin at the end. They are so much easy to do winged liner and you always get a nice thin line.

Eyeko -Black Magic Mascara
Again with Eyeko, I love their eyeliner so I was excited to try out their mascara. This has now made it into my every day make up bag! It lengths, curls and thickens the look of my lashes. I also love the packaging.

PicMonkey Collage3.jpg

Two Faced | Nude Melted Liquified Lipstick
Two faced is another product I have heard about but never used or owned. I love the packaging of this product also, the colour is lovely nude shade and looks lovely on!

Rimmel | Kate Lipstick
I love this shade of red! It is perfect for when you are wearing minimal makeup. This lipstick is also so moisturising and I am happy Megan put this in as a surprise as its a lovely lipstick.

Bourjois Beauty Haul | 2015

Bourjois1

The other day I was in super drug looking for a lipstick as I wanted a nude lip colour or one closer to my lip colour. I came across the Bourjois Rouge Editon Velvet lipstick collection and the shade 07 Nude-ist instantly caught my eye. As there was a 3 for 2 offer on I decided to pick up the lipstick and two other products.

bourjois2

Bourjois | Rouge Edition Velvet 07 Nude-ist

This lipstick colour caught my eye and I fell in love with the shade. I found myself in the super drug store 3 days in a row just swatching this colour on my hand before I gave in and bought it. I must of got on my sisters nerves dragging her in everyday but she eventually convinced me to buy it as it is such a gorgeous shade!

I found this colour to be a ‘your lips but better’ shade, it makes my lips look natural while making them stand out. When applying this to yours lips, it applies nicely and feels smooth. It isn’t cakey looking or drying on the lips which is a bonus.

The brush is a good shape and size and helps to apply the product nicely to your lips as it is not too big or too small.

Overall I am impressed with this lipstick and the shade is such a gorgeous everyday colour.

This lipstick is £8.99 and you can find it here.

Bourjois | 123 Perfect Foundation No51

I chose this foundation over the healthy mix foundation because of the 3 correcting pigments it claims to do.

It has;

Yellow pigments for anti-dark circles
Mauve pigments for anti-dull complexion
Green pigments for anti-redness

When I got home, I applied it to my face with my Real Techniques Stippling brush and found it blended quick and easy.
It helped to reduce the redness on my cheeks and also reduce my under eye bags.

The colour I picked for my skin tone was N051 Light Vanilla and it matched my skin perfectly. You couldn’t tell I had foundation on. I then used powder to help set it into place.

It was a hot day when I tried this out and I applied it around 3 in the afternoon and didn’t take it off until around 9 and it lasted until I took it off and it did not smudge or run. I was surprised with this and knew I could wear it in the hot weather and not have it slowly move down my face throughout the day.

The coverage of this foundation is light to medium and you can build it up or leave it light if you don’t like to layer it on and prefer a more natural look.

Overall I am pleased with this foundation as it ticks all the right boxes.

This foundation is £10.99 and you can find it here.

Bourjois | Mega Liner Ultra Black

This product I picked up because I needed a new eyeliner and because there was an offer on this product would be free. I decided to pick this one up as the tip was angled and I thought it would be good for winged liner because thats how I wear my eyeliner.

When using this I actually found out it is good if you just want to line your eyes. The angled tip on the other hand made the eyeliner come out a bit thicker then it would with a tipped end. I also found it harder to create the winged end as the angled tip made it a little more difficult to fill it in.

This is a good eyeliner to just line your eyes with but not if you want to create the winged eyeliner look as the eyeliner tip is just a bit too big. I also think it is the way you apply the eyeliner and how hard you press down.

This eyeliner is £7.49 and you can find it here.

Clinique Haul | My First Clinique Products 2015

IMG_1961

Around two months ago I went to the Clinique in Boots,
I decided to try out some of their products as heard a lot of good things about their skin care range.

IMG_1962

Clinique – Instant Lift for Brows

My first purchase was the ‘Instant Lift for Brows’. My eyebrows are very sparse and I wanted an eyebrow product that would help make them appear thicker and also add a little bit of definition to them.

The lovely lady at the Clinique counter did a free demonstration with the product for me and filled in my eyebrows and showed me how to apply the product and how to set the eyebrows in place. As I hardly ever touch my eyebrows I found this very helpful and she also helped choose out the right shade for me. I don’t use the highlighter on the other end of this product as I prefer the look without it.

What I love about this is that you can either use a lot of product to make your eyebrows thicker and darker or a little to just fill them in.

If you are looking for a good eyebrow product and you don’t like eyebrow powders I would highly recommend this product.

This product is £16 and you can find it here.

Lush Haul & Review | A Much Needed Treat

lush1

So the other day I went to the Trafford Centre with my sister and I couldn’t resist going into Lush to buy my favourite bubble bar. I ended coming out with more products but I couldn’t resist the urge to try out some of their other face products! I’ve had these products for around a week now and wanted to test them all out so I could write an honest review and see how the face products helped my skin and if they do what they say.

Brightside

‘When you’re chewing on life’s gristle, don’t grumble, give a whistle! Hop in the bath with one of these uplifting bubble bars, Sicilian mandarin, bergamot and tangerine essential oils to help you look on the bright side of life! Its jazzy bright colours will create magnificent orange bath water, and the sunny citrus fragrance is sure to leave you jolly and refreshed.’

This bubble bar smells like fresh oranges and citrusy the smell instantly makes me feel so fresh and clean!
My sister introduced me to this and ever since I always have to go back to Lush and repurchase it. When using this i take 1/4 of the bubble bar and crumble it under the hot tap and it creates lots of bubbles and turns the bath a lovely orange colour. I always use this when I’m feeling a little under the weather or I need a pick me up.

This bubble bar is £4.75 and you can find it here.

A Little Trip To Boots | No7 Haul & Review

Hello fellow beauty bloggers and readers,

I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while but I’m back and I have lots of post lined up!

IMG_1955

So the last month I had a little spending in Boots and bought a lot of No7 products. They had their 3 for 2 offer on so I went a little crazy and treated myself to some of their skin care products.

no7haul1

No7 Beautiful Skin – Blemish Defence Serum

Due to the constant change in weather here in the UK my skin keeps breaking out more than usual, so I decided to pick up this Blemish Defence Serum.

No7 Beautiful Skin Blemish Defence Serum has been created to provide tailored skin nutrition for healthy looking, bright and beautiful skin.
Blemishes are unpredictable so this oil-free formulation helps to unblock pores and clear excess sebum to give smoother, blemish free skin.

I’ve been using this product for around 2 weeks now and from the first use I have really been liking this product. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin nor does it make your skin feel greasy. It leaves your skin feeling so refreshed and I have noticed a huge difference with my blemishes! I have also noticed that it has helped reduce the redness I have around my nose and cheek area. My skin is a lot smoother and looks more healthy and bright.

This product is £16 and you can find it here.

No7 Beautiful Skin – Pore Minimising Serum

I love using my No7 pore vacuum mask but as I only use it once or twice a month I thought I would try this pore serum out.

‘A clever skin perfector that instantly disguises the appearance of enlarged pores. This lightweight, non-greasy serum tightens pores and removes excess oils. It effectively transforms skin’s texture to reveal smoother, more radiant and shine free skin. Day by day it works to visibly reduce pore size in 2 weeks.
The advanced Poreless complex helps to visibly reduce pore size and regulate sebum production to reveal beautiful clear and healthy looking skin.’

I use this twice a day and apply it to my nose and forehead, in the evening and at night. I haven’t noticed a huge difference in the appearance of my pores but I will keep on using it everyday as there’s been a little change in my pores. I also think it’s a good alternative to using pore strips as you can use this serum every day while pore strips you can only use them once a week.

This product is £16 and you can find it here.

No7 Beautiful Skin – Deep pore Purifier

‘Beautifully poreless. A targeted clanser to deeply clean and purify pores around the nose, forehead and chin. The innovative scrub tip gently exfoliates and unblocks pores by dissolving and lifting pore clogging dirt that can cause blackheads. It works to instantly tighten pores, remove excess oils and leave skin feeling incredibly clean. The advanced Poreless complex helps to visibly reduce pore size and regulate sebum production to reveal beautiful clear and healthy looking skin.’

I was looking forward to trying out this product but I’m not too fond of the plastic applicator. Its hard on my skin and it feels uncomfortable to rub the product in with the applicator. The product leathers up well and I have started to put the applicator on my fingers and rub it into my skin that way. The gel product has ingredients in it that help to fight spots and is perfect for if you suffer from breakouts. I’m going to keep on using this product as I had high expectations for it.

This product is £12 and you can find it here.

No7 Total Renewal – Micro -Dermabrasion Face Exfoliator

Instantly Younger. Discover instantly fresher, clearer, younger looking skin, with this micro-dermabrasion exfoliator. A tried and tested dermatological technique, it’s been developed by our skincare experts for you to use at home.

Aluminium-oxide micro-crystals smooth, refine and renew sweeping away dull cells for incredible radiance from the first time you use it. Within 4 treatments stimulates skin cell renewal to work against fine lines, skin tone evens leaving skin softer, silky to touch and more refined. Helps to work against the appearance of dark areas, sun damaged or blemish prone skin too. Not to be used on sore sun-burnt skin.’

I bought this as it helps to even out skin tone and also it helps blemish prone skin. I love doing face masks and i bought this to try it out.

How to use;

Dot onto clean damp skin. Gently massage upwards for 1 minute, following the instructions on the leaflet carefully . Rinse and follow with an SPF15 moisturiser. Only use twice a week

It took me a few tries to get the instructions right as I wanted to make sure I was applying the product right and massaging it into my face in the right way. After the first use my skin was a lot smoother and looked brighter and more hydrated. What I love about this product is it’s like having a facial at home but for a fraction of the price, and you get lots of use out of it.

This product is £11.00 and you can find it here.

Lush Haul | April 2015

Lush haul title

Hello fellow beauty bloggers and readers,
So the other day i went to Lush with my sister and we treated our selves to some Lush goodies. I picked up two bubble bars, two bath bombs and a face mask.

I bought some presents and also things for myself as i’ve been a little stressed doing my uni work and Lush baths always make me feel better.

Lush haul 1

Cosmetic Warrior – Fresh Face Mask

‘A gentle and balancing fresh face mask with antibacterial tea tree and fresh garlic working together to cleanse. Fresh green grapes clean and cool the skin, whilst free range eggs tighten its texture and antimicrobial honey leaves it soft and moisturised. Smooth a generous layer of this mask onto your face and leave for 10 to 15 minutes.’

Me and my sister wanted a face mask that would help get rid of spots. Over the past few weeks my forehead has broke out in tiny spots and everything I tried didn’t help to reduce them. This face mask caught our eye and the lovely lady at Lush told us how good this was for spots and how soft it made your skin feel, she wasn’t wrong! After using it once I noticed a huge difference with the appearance of the spots on my forehead. It contains garlic which the lady said put people off but you can’t smell it and all the natural ingredients combined really help with spots. You keep this in the fridge and you get around 6 face masks out of it.

This face mask helps cool, soothe and reduce the appearance and also gets rid of spots and has helped calm my skin and works wonders to help get rid of spots. Also because all the ingredients are natural it isn’t irritating or damaging to the skin.

Cosemtic Warrior is £6.50 for a 75ml pot. You can pick it up in stores or find it here.
